Hog plum is a decudious tree bearing thick, corky, and deeply fissured bark .It bears edible fruits .The flowers bloom during  January to May and are sweet-scented.The plant is an angiosperm belonging to the order Sapindales and Family Anacardiaceae.Spondias mombin is a small tree which is also known as yellow mombin .Hog plum posses low branches.The branchlets are glabrous and pinnated leaves.The fruit has a a single spiny kernel surrounded by flesh.The fruit is used as a diuretic and febrifuge. The flowers and leaves are used to make a tea for stomach ache.The mature fruit has a leathery skin.This fruit also posses a thin layer of pulp. The seed posses oil content.
